Synopsis:
To undo a mistake made a thousand years in the past, the wizard Hellsfire used his magic to bring down the Great Barrier that once divided the northern and southern lands. In doing so, he nearly brought war to his own homeland, and he afflicted the love of his life, Princess Krystal of Alexandria, with a potent and deadly curse.
Since then, Hellsfire has been working in Tyree with its Elemental Council, to rebuild its war-torn land and find a way to break Krystal’s curse. Now Krystal’s time is running out. As the princess fights for her life, Hellsfire learns that the wizard responsible for the curse—his old enemy Premier—is heading to the Burning Sands to steal the mysterious Jewel of Dakara.
If Hellsfire can capture Premier and learn the secret of the curse, he can save Krystal. But the Jewel of Dakara holds its own deadly secrets, and the hunt will take Hellsfire farther than he ever imagined, and cost him more than he bargained for.

The past is never gone nor buried...

My Review:

I received a copy from the author to read and review in return.

Once again, Marc Johnson pulled it off! Reawakening, just like its previous books in this wonderful series, has successfully pulled me into Hellsfire's crazy magical world and filled my mind with obsession and admiration for this book.

The story starts off where we left off in What Once Was Once, where we reunite with our courageous young wizard, Hellsfire, who is staying in Tyree with the Elemental Council. He has promised to help the council where needed, but his personal goal is to find the cure of the curse which ancient wizard Renak has bestowed upon his beloved Princess Kystal, Hellsfire's true love. Alongside with Ardonis, the powerful wizard from the Elemental Council who possesses the power of life, he sets off to return to Alexandria, the beautiful city where he once lived with the princess. Adonis is to try and lift or at least alleviate Krystal's curse. With the heavy notion that he will not be welcomed with open arms by the King, due to his banishment resulting from his indirect infliction of the curse on the princess, Hellsfire is more than determined to push on to find the cure which will allow him to once again touch and love the princess.

Hellsfire comes to the realisation that these good intentions are not enough to save Kystal, he needs to find a permanent cure. Not only is this on his mind, but the evil wizard Premier is still looming around, creating mischief and destruction. Now it seems that Premier is looking for the mysterious Jewel of Dakara. Hellsfire is not sure what this Jewel does and why Premier eagerly longs to find it, but Hellsfire needs to get to the stone before Premier does. The King allows Hellsfire to venture out to the Burning Sands with Kystal's trusty guard Ardimus to track down Premier and hopefully along the way find hints or clues on how to break Renak's curse on Princess Krystal

From the first page, the reader is immediately put on the edge of their seat. Hellsfire doesn't get a breather and he lands into some serious fatal trouble, which seems to be a heavy consequence resulting from his decision of using his darkfire in his previous battle against the monsters and the Elemental Council. In this book we find out way more about Hellsfire's darkfire, and how it is still lurking under Hellsfire's skin, aching to be released once again.

I absolutely loved the adventure Hellsfire went on with Ardimus. I already loved Ardimus' characters, but now we get to know him on a complete different level! Ardimus is very familiar with the the Burning Sands, as his home was not so far away from these dreadful deserts landscapes. We get to see Ardimus completely out of his usual scene, which is normally next to Princess Krystal; this truly gave the reader a different and very positive perpective over him.

The scenery of the story is so different than what we are used to in Mr. Johnson's previous books. We venture alongside with our protagonist in the dry and never ending desserts of the Burning Sands, to the absolutely crazy and magical surroundings of the parallel world called the Netherrealm. With these new sceneries come new and some familiar cunning, comical, and insane characters! This really made the story come alive and create an obsession within the reader, never wanting for one moment to put down the book.

Read your heart out guys, because this is another beautiful and nail biting addition to the breathtaking series of The Passage of Hellsfire!
